These gourd necklaces were inspired by the native history of North Carolina. My husband Thom plants the gourds every year at our “Marigold Plantation”. He harvest and clean them for me to paint.

Gourd NecklacesThe gourds in America have been used throughout history, starting with the native Indians and the colonial people. They were important domestic tools, including bottle gourds, musical instruments, birdhouses to attract purple martins, which provided bug control for agriculture and many more. Today we continue planting the gourds in North Carolina, and they are a basic source of artistic inspiration.
