Class of Plein Air Painting of Grapevines

Dear Students:

You are cordially invited to Clina Polloni Art Studio at Marigold Plantation to learn Plein Air Painting. Plein Air is about leaving the studio behind and experiencing painting and drawing the landscape. 

This class is FREE for Clina Polloni Art students and Franklin County Art Council members. Lets enjoy some artistic talent together, a time to get to know each other better, inspired by nature.

“The Fishermen”

“The Fishermen”, this painting was done in the beautiful fishing town of Constitución, Chile. Based on a painting that my great-grandfather did in 1913. Bright and changing colors of the sunset, the fishermen were coming back with their rich catch on a summer evening after a day at the sea.

Who could imagine that almost a hundred years after, this village was going to be destroyed by the fury of the waters, an earthquake and tsunami that killed 350 people in Constitución, Chile. March 1, 2010.

Antonio Polloni, My Great Grandfather.

He was a talented Chilean Artist. He painted with oils winning many prices for his art. In 1920 he received the 1st National Award for his self portrait “El Pobre Diablo” (“The Pour Devil”). He was also a very well known Chilean photographer, commissioned by the Chilean Navy, traveling through the Chilean territory taking panoramic photos, unifying his photos one by one in his laboratory creating a horizontal photo of the landscape.

How to Paint Red Geraniums in a Stone House.

Traveling through the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, I was inspired to paint this colonial stone house with the red geraniums in the window.

This is a simple painting that would be good to learn in the painting class.

Instructions of how to do this painting:

1. Draw a 2″ border around the painting.
2. Start by drawing the window, geraniums, door, stones and tree in the front, defining the light and the shade. Look at image. Click the images to view a large painting >>
3. Do your under-paint or imprimatura with a wash of gold acrylic. Acrylics are very good for under-painting because they dry faster. They creates a worm color that once you put the oils in the top, they look brighter.

Start painting in the following order because it is going to be easier for you:

1. Using oils or acrylics, start painting the stones, window and door.
2. Paint the red geraniums and leaves in the front.
3. Last, paint the tree in the front.
4. Sign your work of art.

How to paint an 1800’s Country Scene.

Learn to paint an 1800’s Country Scene from Chile.

This is a simple painting designed to learn to paint a country scene, trees, sunset skies, reflections in the water.

I was born and raised in Chile, and in my memories, I remember country roads, when traveling with my family through the beautiful land of Chile. This painting is based in sketches that my great grandfather, Antonio Polloni did when painting the landscape of Chile in the 1800’s.

Instructions:

1. Start by drawing the country houses and landscape.
2. Give a soft coat of gold acrylic. Acrylics are very good for under-painting, they creates a worm color that once you paint in the top, the colors looks brighter.
3. Next star painting from the back, sky, road, grass, trees, houses, and reflections in the water.
4. Sign your work of art.

How To Paint A White Adobe Church

This painting was inspired by my life in Rabones, a valley of dreams located in the mountains of the central region of Chile.

I lived for 10 years in our farm called “Las Puertas de Rabones”. I was close to God, to nature and to animals. Memories of golden sunny days, enjoying the company of beautiful people with spirits as clear as the crystal waters of “Rio Putagan” running through the fertile land. Tree in a Field of Lavender Painting, Instructions and Supply.

This painting was inspired by mountains and landscape of North Carolina. A simple painting created for the painting classes.

Instructions:

1) Draw tree and mountains.
2) The best and easier way of painting this landscape is by doing an under-paint with acrylics using:Titanium White, Cerulean Blue and Ivory Black. Paint the entire canvas with a mixture of Titanium White and Cerulean Blue. Outline tree with black.
3) Now you can start the painting. It can be done with oils or acrylics. First is the mountains, second the grass, walkway and flowers. Finally the leaves of the tree with shades of greens for light and shading.
