Drawing with Acrylics by Clina Polloni

The Cherry Blossom Trees are in bloom! Let’s learn how to draw with acrylics.

This are difficult times for all of us, we have to stay home with the Coronavirus. Go outside, take your family and draw the beautiful flowers of Spring!

Cherry Blossom Trees Drawing

Cherry Blossom Trees Drawing

Instructions of this drawing:

  1. Go outside, in this painting is the back yard of my house. Select the flowers that you would like to paint. 2. Draw with pencils first to create a general composition of your painting.
  2. Use your acrylics with lots of water because they flow better, impregnating your canvas, don’t leave spots without paint. Acrylics are very good for under-painting because they dry faster. They create a worm color that once you finish your final painting with oils or acrylics in the top, they look brighter.
  3. Apply a coat of washed Titanium White and Cerulean Blue over the area of the sky and a coat of washed Sap Green over the grass.
  4. Start drawing with Ivory Black: trunk of trees, house (including inside of windows) and details of landscape.
  5. With Titanium White and Yellow Ochre paint over house. Magenta for the flowers of the cherry blossom trees and Sap Green over the dogwood tree.

Canvas: 16″x 16″

Colors:

  1. Titanium White
  2. Cerulean Blue
  3. Yellow Ochre
  4. Sap Green
  5. Magenta
  6. Ivory Black

There are many affordable brushes in the market:
Walmart: FolkArt, Gold Taklon, fine details and shading.
Michael’s: 10pc “Artist’s Loft” white synthetic brushes.
Jerry’s Arterama: Pro Stroke-Power Creative, fine and medium brushes.

Easel (a simple table metal easel is fine).

Paper towel.

Plate to mix colors or a paper/plastic Palette. SOHO has a very reasonable paper palette at Jerry’s Arterama.

To our dear family and friends,

This year 2019, God had blessed us and gave us many reasons to be thankful.

The family is doing well, growing and healthy. Summer and Autumn are living permanently with Thommy and April, going to a new school here in Franklinton that they like. James surprised us with a welcome visit. Patricia and David came to visit us for the Allen reunion.

Oil Portrait of my mother Clina Becker

Oil Portrait of my mother Clina Becker

It has been a very sad year for Chile after the continues destruction by communist terrorist. We thank to God that the family is fine. My mother is stable and with a very positive spirit. Enjoying our company when we are able to go to Chile.

We took the granddaughters Summer, Autumn and Melissa to historical sites of North Carolina to learn about the history of our state and about their ancestors. Visited their graves and plantations.

I have to be thankful to my students, they had brought me great happiness seeing their accomplishments and paintings.

The painting in the top is the “Children Sleigh Ride” inspired by my husband Thom’s three children Thommy, Patricia and James, playing in the snow when they were small. Joyful days of growing up in their beautiful farm in Franklinton, North Carolina.

God bless you on this Holiday Season of 2019 and bring you lots of happiness for 2020,

Thom and Clina

A nuestra querida familia y amigos.

Thom y Clina

Oil painting 24″x 36″ by Clina Polloni.

Girl Making Butter Painting

Girl Making Butter Painting

This painting is about a girl concentrating in making butter. Children have always been my inspiration, portraying the innocence of their young life.

Also, my admiration for the beauty and history of North Carolina. Traveling through the mountains I admired the rocks formations and colors, from browns to yellows, greens, aquamarines and blues.

Clina Polloni is a contemporary artist born in Chile. Her oil paintings are inspired by her love for people, animals and nature. Her new project: “The motif of the human figure in a dialogue with natures light and colors.” In these new paintings she is portraying the people of North Carolina in their environment and activities, representing the colonial times and history of our state.

Instructions of how to do this painting:

  1. Start by drawing the girl and rocks setting defining the light and the shade. I draw with pencils, permanent pens and acrylics. Look at image.
  2. Do your under-paint or imprimatura with a wash of acrylic gold and silver. Acrylics are very good for under-painting because they dry faster. They create a worm color that once you put the oils in the top, they look brighter.
  3. Apply a coat of heavy gesso in the walls to create texture.

Start painting with oils in the following order because it is going to be easier for you:

  1. Using oils, start painting the background, stones, window, chair, floor, vegetables, etc.
  2. Using oils paint the skin, blending light and shade to the color of the skin. Paint the features of the face and hands.
  3. Paint hair, hat and clothe.
  4. Sign your work of art.

Still Life, Red and Yellow Peppers.

Painting Class Taught by Artist Clina Polloni.

Learn how to draw and paint a Still Life with Red and Yellow Peppers. Bright colors! The best ingredients to create an amazing painting.

Still Life-Red and Yellow Peppers Painting

Drawing instructions:

  1. Divide your canvas in half, vertically and horizontally with a line. Blue lines 1 and 2 in sample.
  2. In the right side, draw a vertical line in the position where you want to place your yellow pepper, line 3. In the center of these 2 lines draw line 4.
  3. Draw an oval (line 5) for the structure of your yellow pepper attached to line 2 and 3. In the center and top of line 4 draw another small oval (line 6). From this oval start drawing the secondary folds of the structure formation of the pepper. Think about light and shade.
  4. Duplicate the same process for your left pepper.
Still Life-Red and Yellow Peppers Drawing

Still Life-Red and Yellow Peppers Drawing

Painting Instructions:

  1. In this painting I did an under-paint of light yellow and light red with a lot of water to be absolved by the canvas, using acrylics because they dry faster. The under paint is very important because you are continuing to draw with colors and defining light and shade in your final painting.
  2. Now you can paint the background. Select a background that you would like for the two combinations of the sample paintings. Paint table with the shading of the peppers.
  3. Enjoy painting your red and yellow peppers. Put special attention to the blending of colors.

Learn To Paint A Ballerina Dress

Ballerina Dress Painting

This painting is a self portrait of Clina Polloni student Labannya Samanta. The challenge is to get a perfect definition of light and shadow, creating the many colors tones to accomplish the folding of the close.

Instructions and Progression:

  1. You start by drawing and painting a good under-paint. It was done in acrylics because they dry faster and it gives you the opportunity to paint immediately. Draw with your acrylics the light and shade.
  2. Continue with oils, light areas first, then medium tone and finally shading colors. Blend these colors very softly to create a fine transition

Brushes, multi-purpose, polyvalent, from the finest 0 to 6.
For Oil paintings, the best media is Refined Linseed Oil with Refined Turpentine. To clean the brushes Turpernoi. Glass container to mix media.
Easel (a simple table metal easel is fine).
Paper towel.
